For applications like this one, updates are provided through an Updater. To check for updates, go to Help > and look for Check for updates. Some apps are configured to check for updates when they're started.
Make sure that your firewall allows PaperPort and all its modules to access Internet. There could also be the problem with their servers being in maintenance or having issues.
You need to download the product you have already purchased again. To download the application you will need the order number and the password. To find them check the Look Up Your Order section from the Nuance Communications web page. Click the Begin Download button after you fill up the order number and password boxes. You can find the serial number in the Order Confirmation email that you received when you submitted the order.
Paperport 8 is not compatible with Windows 8. However, there is a newly released version (version 14) that is compatible with Windows 8 and WIndows 7. You will need to use that version. Visit the official website to get more information about this product.

The latest PaperPort version is PaperPort 14. The application costs $99.99 and you can purchase it from Nuance Communications web page. It doesn't cost less if you have PaperPort 9 installed on your computer. Although you can contact the developer for more information.
If PaperPort still appears on your program list after you uninstall it, means that the application is not uninstalled properly. Restart your computer and if it still appears in the list try using Revo Uninstaller in order to uninstall it. Even if it can't uninstall the application normally, it will force it to uninstall by wiping out all traces of its presence from the system.
After that, try running AdwCleaner to make sure that there are no leftover rogue registry keys or toolbars in your system.
I am trying to scan both sides of my invoices. I do not see the option to set it for both sides. Also, while scanning, when I get a paper jam, it saves it each time instead of continuing, so I have to stack them after. How can I fix this?

The double side scanning is available from Paperport 9 and later. To do this you need to use the option in the Scanner options within PaperPort's scanner panel. When the option is activated, specify the number of pages, then the software will merge the scans together after it's finished. For more information I recommend checking the official support page that deals with this procedure: http://nuance.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4123/~/using-the-double-sided-scanning-option-with-paperport-9
